The Game Ruler

“A creative director is not about designing a product, it’s about designing a whole story. He has to have his own style in his creativity, nuture his creativity, be resilient, super hard working and focused. Most importantly, he has to have a dream…” …and Floriane De Saint Pierre should know. She is the matchmaker of the high fashion world, marrying designers to brands. She is the force that recommended Hedi Slimane to YSL (now Saint Laurent), Christopher Bailey to Burberry and Alexander Wang to Balenciaga. I always admire and am in awe of forward thinking women who run their own business and who are mothers too. Here’s a s...

Follow The Yellow Brick Road

A trip to American isn't complete without the obligatory road trip. Hubby and I loved our road trip wheels – a Volkswagen Beetle that reminded me of my Morris Minor convertible back home in London. We drove through the desert past the Salton Sea to get to the remote Salvation Mountain. Salvation Mountain is one man's tribute to his God and love for life. Leonard Knight's message is "love is universal". It is a man made 50 foot high, 150 foot wide structure painstakingly built from clay over several years and lovingly painted with biblical messages and symbols of nature – flowers, trees, birds.  It is a happy and colourf...

Viva Palm Springs

Most guides to Palm Springs mention Ace Hotel so we went to investigate what all the fuss is about… The laid back lobby area… The popular pool area is the main draw for hipsters to soak up the rays, people watch and down cocktails… No time for a dip…we were there to fill our tums before exploring more of Palm Springs! We satisfied Hubby's diner cravings at the King's Highway diner… The adjoining Amigo Room is a cavernous bar that had a touch of Robert Rodriguez about it. The banquet tables are covered with (real?) Mexican bank notes… It's fitting that Palm Springs should host the 3 storey high Forever Marilyn statu...

Meet Bernstock Speirs

The Bernstock Speirs hat shop, open since 2004, is on the northern tip of the famous Brick Lane, away from the hustle and bustle of the shops, galleries and curry houses, as well as the weekend market crowds. The shop location quietly reflects the Bernstock Speirs brand – cool, off beat, away from the main stream and a style leader. In fact, their pom pom hat with veil was recently copied by retail giant Aldo, but luckily withdrawn from sale after highlighted on Twitter by my cousin Style Bubble no less. I sat down for tea and a natter with the lovely and funny Paul Bernstock and Thelma Speirs back in July at their atelier… ...

Caincaser. Another Art Post.

It's always a privilege and fascinating to go behind the scenes in the studios of designers and artists as it's where the magic happens. Therefore I jumped at the chance to tag along when my Hubby paid a visit to his painter friend Caincaser. Cain has an amazing energetic style, inspired by graffiti and music culture. He re-uses destroyed paintings, and employs spray paint, pens and paint brush to create paintings that are a mix of figuration and abstract. The resulting portraits (yes that's what they are!) are left to your imagination. Pots and cans of colour… The tools of Cain's trade… There's even beauty in the splashes ...
