I needed rest and relaxation after a manic September. Hubby prescribed a dose of Californian blue skies so off we flew!

Having already visited Los Angeles earlier this year, we decided to experience a desert resort and settled on Palm Springs. We were lured by its reputation (since the 1920s) as Hollywood's desert playground for celebrities to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of showbiz. The "Two Hour Rule" of Hollywood studios put Palm Springs on the map as a perfect getaway. Actors under contract had to be available within two hours from the studio just in case they were summoned for last minute filming. In Hollywood's Golden Age, celebrities who stayed in hideaway homes in Palm Springs included Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Hubby and I are big fans of Mid-Century design – and Parker Palm Springs has an abundance of it, albeit eccentric and ecletic, thanks to interior designer Jonathan Adler.
