My Life-Changing 3-days Italian Retreat at Eremito, Italy

How should I begin…It took me a few days to figure out what to write and how to write about my experience, because this retreat gave me a very emotional and powerful experience. We live in a world where things happen too fast, and it has became an effort and a luxury to just make time for oneself to relax, or doing nothing. My whole purpose of doing this solo retreat in Italy, is to come all the way here, stay at this magical place Eremito. Eremito is Italian, in English it means hermit. So I was here, in the photo below, in the middle of nowhere. That is where Eremito is.   In the middle of Umbria, Italy, the land of medieval ...

A journey back in time- Palazzo Magnoni Feroni, Florence, Italy

Last week I went on another solo journey to a few cities in the beautiful Italy.  I always wondered how its like to live in a palace, so for Florence, I picked Palazzo Magnoni Feroni.   Back in 1770, the Marquis Feroni purchased the palace, expanded it and decorated the ground floor and the first floor apartments. Later on it passed on to the Magnani family that distinguished itself among the high-society of 1800′ Florence, and was listed in the “Golden books of Florentine nobility” commissioned initially by Ferdinando I de’ Medici. A historical palace itself, one of the oldest buildings in the San Frediano neighbourh...

A warm farmhouse stay- Locanda Rosati, Orvieto, Italy

My second stop of my solo Italian retreat trip was Orvieto- another very old city about an hour train from Perugia, on the other side of Umbria. For Orvieto, I stayed at a beautiful house run by the Rosati family. It is a bed & breakfast (actually, dinner included !) homestay. Locanda Rosati is not in Orvieto city, it is about 15mins drive from the train station, and the city. On the drive to the house, you get to see the whole Orvieto from afar. I will write more about the cities in later posts. Giampiero, the host of the farmhouse was very nice and offered to pick me up at the train station when I sort out my train times. He wa...

A journey back in time- Castello di Monterone, Perugia, Italy

It was my first time to visit Umbria, the middle part of Italy. My first stop was Perugia, a very old town and the capital of Umbria. I picked a few special places to stay this time. For Perugia, I picked a castle. Yes, a castle as a hotel. I stayed at Castello di Monterone , 15 mins by taxi from the Perugia train station, 20mins from Perugia airport. The castle is in the countryside, originally built as military headquarters along the important road connecting Perugia to Rome, now it is a place of peace and retreating. For me, it was pure peacefulness. Usually I stay in the city centre if I know I am only staying in the city ...

Travelogue- Florence..in Love..Hotel Lungarno

I live in a city that has a river runs through, and I know how different atmosphere can be on either sides of the river. So on my second night in Florence, I stayed at Hotel Lungarno. The beautiful Hotel Lungarno is part of the properties owned by Ferragamo family (yes, THAT Ferragamo). Standing at one of the best location on the river, all river-facing rooms can see Ponte Vecchio clearly, and the restaurant where few tables are set is the one and only outdoor riverside space that truly sits above the river with a magical view. As part of the Lungarno collections, Hotel Lungarno is one that boasts traditional and classy Italian l...
