sketch- a name that many has heard of, a place many had visited. But how many of you know the history and noticed the details of this one of the most Insagrammed place in the heart of London ?  sketch’s home is a Grade II listed building designed by James Wyatt in 1779. It has previously been the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects before later becoming the London Atelier of Christian Dior. The site consists of the Lecture Room & Library, the Parlour, the Glade, the East Bar, and the Gallery. Inaugurated 15 years ago by restauranteur Mourad Mazouz, his commitment to art and design has seen the venue host over 50 exhibitions including artists like Chris Levine, Tracey Emin, Carsten Nicolai, John Baldessari, Jonas Mekas, Silvie Fleury, Mary Ellen Bute, Charles & Ray Eames, Michael Nyman.

For this Christmas, the inspiration behind is “Dulce Domum”, or “Sweet Home”. 6 different installations of classic Christmas scenes with a twist has transformed each of the venues inside the restaurant, allowing you to embark on a fantasy journey each bringing to life a traditional reminiscent scene of Christmas. At £80pp, the Christmas afternoon tea is available in The Gallery, which has been transformed into a mystical fairyland.

The Nutcracker Ballet – sketch Façade & Entrance Hall by Tony Marklew Christmas starts on the façade, opening the festive season with the Ballet, sketch invites its guests to dance their way in with the Nutcracker

The Christmas Spirit – The Lecture Room & Library by Tony Marklew The celebrations conclude with ‘The Christmas Spirit’ in the two Michelin-star restaurant ‘The Lecture Room & Library’; a 5m gold and silver tree adorned with ornaments representing the virtues of Peace, Giving, Joy, Love & Reflection.


Iconic pink interiors and scalloped velvet furniture by India Mahdavi, marble tiles by artist Martin Creed and numerous artworks by artist David Shrigley. An exhibition of 91 new colourful works by Shrigley was introduced to the Gallery in January 2018.



Under the Mistletoe – The Glade by Tala & Rebel Rebel The Glade, sketch’s ‘enchanted découpage forest’ will be transformed by British lighting designers Tala who are collaborating with top London florists Rebel Rebel. This will see the ceiling covered in mistletoe, intertwined with hanging lights inspired by the basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway


The “Original” Christmas Tale – Glade/Gallery Reception by Dianne Harris A specially commissioned hologram by Kinetica Museum artist Dianne Harris will tell the pagan Christmas story of shamans, solstice and the true meaning behind the Nutcracker and Father Christmas

One of the spots in the restaurant that is seen being photographed is their egg-shape toilets. This Christmas, the venue has transformed the place into a Christmas winter wonderland.

All Wrapped Up – The Pods by sketch & Love Print The iconic Pods will be wrapped like Christmas presents, each decorated with ribbons and bows, inspired by the gift of giving. Underneath, the East Bar is transformed into the Cîroc Vodka Bar, for a takeover during the festive period.
