Fashion show + afternoon tea + an elegant setting to spend an afternoon? You can have all these 3 wishes at the same time! The Savoy, one of the most classic and significant luxurious hotel in London is hosting the Salon Couture in the beautiful Thames Foyer on the first Wednesday of every month. The Salon Couture High-Tea with Suzie Turner has been inspired by the salon style fashion shows of the 1950s, the show presents 10 to 12 looks from British Couturier Suzie Turner’s collection. Featuring one-of-a-kind pieces, such as a dress with 47 hand-sewn emerald Nagoire flat feathers, and a gown made with 27,000 Swarovski crystals.
While you’re enjoying the show, you can enjoy a welcome cocktail followed by a selection of delectable sandwiches, cakes, scones and éclairs, all created by The Savoy’s Executive Pastry Chef, Ludwig Hely. Each guests are also given a pack of beautifully printed cards that reminisce the fashion prints back in the days, with description of each and every look next to the illustration.
Based around the ‘Salon Style’ fashion shows of the 1950s, this is a true celebration of the history within the walls of The Savoy. Christian Dior showed his second collection in autumn 1947 at The Savoy, and it was received with such acclaim that the Queen (the late Queen Mother) requested a separate private viewing the following morning for members of the Royal Family, including her daughter Princess Margaret. The choreography of the Suzie Turner show was inspired by archive footage and the models are taught to walk in the fashion of classic salon models.
There are 4 flavours of éclairs to choose from, and I’m allowed to choose all of them! Which I only picked the salted caramel.
Price at £58, including a welcome cocktail created by American Bar Head Bartender Erik Lorinc, a couture fashion show and live saxophone performance- I cannot think of a better way to spend a Wednesday evening!
