Having visited Copenhagen for a few times already, I know how eco-friendly the city is. It is known for its green and sustainability that I think everyone should learn and incorporate some. This time I chose to stay at Babette Guldsmeden Hotel. It is only about 10 mins walk from the famous little mermaid statue, and about 15 mins walk from Nyhavn.

Hotel Babette Guldsmeden is a very special one- it is entirely sustainable and organic. As part of the Guldsmeden Hotels, the group was founded on the basis of love of good hostmanship, and the hotels are all operated by dedicated – but untraditional and unorthodox – guidelines within sustainability and ecology.  All hotels are Green Globe and Gold-Ø-certified (the official Danish label for 90-100% organic produce). Sandra and Marc Weinert opened the first Hotel Guldsmeden in Guldsmedgade in Århus in 1999. The hotel runs a very thorough sustainable management policy : from the use of water and electricity to the food portion and where they purchase the goods, every single thing is environmental friendly. Bikes are available for rent, food and drinks are 90% organic and fresh, only serving in glasses and no bottled water etc….

Even the design of the hotel is heavily incorporated to compliment with the nature and sustainable materials. Wooden floors, brick wall and few hand-picked persian carpets, the hotel is as cool as it sounds. The moment you walk in, you feel very comfortable and welcomed. The hotel concept also incorporated a lot or art pieces and nordic designs, as you walk around, you will notice a lot of paintings or classic interior designs throughout the hotel. There’s a little bar area where you can meet other guests or have a chat with the hotel staff, and the stylish lobby where you can also enjoy a cup of coffee. And the restaurant is a pure delight! The design and the food are both awesome…

There’s a little corner in the hotel lobby where guests can recycle magazines and books. Such a good idea.

I loved my room, it has a very cute Bali-style wooden bed, and there are signs in the room stating where the natural energy is generated from. The bathroom is so raw that there are stone basins and walls, its so cool.  All the key cards and business cards are created with certified wood cards  provided by And all rooms have no air-conditioning or heater either.

The view from my room is overlooking the Kastellet (one of the best preserved star fortresses in Denmark), the nature and the greens are so soothing. Despite sitting on the corner of two main roads (5 mins walk from a main train station), it is very quiet throughout the day and night. With the sustainable policy in the hotel, toiletries provided in the bathroom are also organic products. Since all water (still and sparkling) are clean and healthy tap water, the paper cups are provided for drinking water from tap- hence they can be recycled instead of using plastic.

The products are actually very nice, and if you like, you can purchase from the hotel too.

Even the snacks in the room are also organic!

I have never stayed in a hotel where I almost have every meal in the hotel if I don’t have any appointments. Honestly all the food being served in the hotel is delicious and fresh. It makes you realize how different it is when you eat good quality healthy organic food. Policy in restaurant is to serve approximately 20% meat dishes max. and vegetarian and vegan options are always available. That is why during breakfast lots of fresh fruits and vegetable are served. On the menu most of the dishes are vegetarian, but the meat dishes are equally fresh and delicious. All products purchased by or produced for Hotel Guldsmeden come from organic and/or fair- trade suppliers. All food and drink is organic, including coffee, tea and all liquor.

The restaurant also runs a food-saving programme “Love Food, Hate Waste”, that they promote to our guests on the website and on the paper napkins in the restaurant, explaining their reasons for not wanting to waste food, tips as to how not to throw out food at home, and why the breakfast buffet is not filled up with food when near to closing time.

Staying at Babette Guldsmeden for few days made me felt like I had a very healthy detox. It made me realize that 100% sustainable is actually possible, you just need to make an effort and maintain it. Not only my body felt differently, the whole mindset is also different, as the whole hotel is so eco-friendly, automatically it makes you become conscious of your own choices too. Everyone is so friendly in the hotel that they take care of you in all ways.

Healthy food and drinks, healthy and clean environment, they also have a sky spa area where you can use the steam room, sauna or just rest on the rooftop and enjoy a nice day with the sun. The first photo above is the view from the rooftop.

The very famous and romantic Nyhavn is just about 15mins away on foot, it is a very nice stroll along the road too. The hotel staff are very knowledgable and helpful, basically whatever you want you can just go up and ask them. One night I said I feel like having some really good gelato, in 2 seconds I got my answer from the staff and in 15 mins I was there with the clear directions given by him. And it was really one of the best gelato in Copenhagen.

Thank you so much for having me Hotel Babette Guldsmeden. It is truly a chic, stylish and organic hotel that I would love to re-visit and recommend to my friends. I felt so refreshed after staying there for few days!
