Innsbruck is a beautiful little city. Earlier on I went on a snowboarding holiday and stopped by Innsbruck for just 1.5 day. I was very sure I had been to Innsbruck before (SWAROVSKI headquarters), but just couldn’t remember how the city looks like, so my friend from Innsbruck said : if you cannot remember Innsbruck, you have not been to Innsbruck.

With a limited amount of time, I stayed at the Grand Hotel Europa in Innsbruck. The location of the hotel is unbeatable. Directly across the road to the Innsbruck train station, the hotel has a long glamourous history. Founded by Schreiner & Klausner in 1869, since its establishment as the first tourism and social address, a list of significant figures throughout the history has been linked with the hotel : in 1883 the Baroque Hall built by the architects of Bavarian King Ludwig II , builder of Neuschwanstein Castle as  “This is the most beautiful place in Innsbruck to celebrate festive events.” ;  between the competition of the two Olympic Winter Games from 1964 and 1976, King Carl Gustav of Sweden found in the suites of the Grand Hotel the necessary rest and relaxation . In 2007, the Italian “Palenca Luxury Hotels” acquired Innsbruck’s most important hotel etc…

The hotel is really too convenient, within 15 mins walk I was already at the old town of Innsbruck.

From the outside, you cannot really tell the gorgeous interior that has kept the heritage of the historical hotel. It was a very pleasant surprise when I walked into the beautiful tyrolean restaurant for breakfast.   Everything has been decorated in wood with elegant crystal lights, it is pure joy to enjoy my breakfast, which was equally refreshing and delicious. The multiple awarded restaurant “Europa Stüberl” (2 bonnets Gault Millau) offers seasonal delicacies and classical Tyrolean specialties. Five individually appointed parlors stand for Tyrolean charm and atmosphere.

Among the 117 rooms and suites, it is a mixture of modern and traditional Tyrolean designs. My room was a very modern and comfortable one- perfect for a good night’s rest after few days of snowboarding.

And this is one of the suites in traditional Tyrolean interior.

I also saw quite a lot of paintings, art pieces and photographs hanging on the walls in the hotel, indeed the hotel is an elegant combination of the modern and heritage.

If you only have a limited time to explore this beautiful little city, Grand Hotel Europa is the hotel to stay. It saves you so much time and you get the experience of both modern and traditional Tyrolean hospitality. And you also get the most convenient transportation because the main railway station and bus stations are literally 1 min away.
