No not that kind of strip, well at least not here.

There’s something fascinating about the New York glamour..just like there’s always something about the Parisian romance. Steak House is quite an american thing, but it’s got to be done the right way. Sitting in Farringdon, hidden at the back of a quiet courtyard, Strip Bar & Steak is a hidden little gem within the Malmaison hotel.

Opened in November, it wasn’t until recently that I finally managed to visit the hotel and the steakhouse that I’ve heard so much about. As the latest addition to the area’s thriving dining scene, Strip Bar & Steak offers a modern twist on the traditional steakhouse, with a fresh, fun interpretation of the New York dining staple.

I couldn’t help but notice all the funky decoration and designs within the little intimate place before the food came. The interiors combine urban style with a touch of Las Vegas. The rawness of the wall, the use of space, the setting and all the neon lights, dark wooden tables and floors and plush leather seatingare really eye-catching..  I was led into the restaurant by neon lights and daily specials are advertised on a model of the classic Nevada Stardust Casino sign.

The split-level restaurant have booths on the upper level as well as three intimate booths
for 8 people hidden below exposed-brick archways. A private dining room for 12 people sits on
the edge of the restaurant allowing diners to soak up the atmosphere whilst having a touch of
privacy.

Since Strip Bar & Steak specialises in New York Strip using a selection of USDA Black Angus Prime grade beef, hand-cut to order from 250g up to 550g – for those who like a challenge. I ordered a portion for my main. IMG_6003

With sides of chinese bak choy, steamed spinach, fries and potato puree, and three sauces, I’d say the steak itself is tasty and juicy enough that you actually don’t need any sides or extra sauces. The portion I ordered was already the smallest they offer, it arrived sliced and looks mouth-waterhing. I normally avoid eating beef or steak if I have a choice, but since it is one of the signature, why not give it a try. The portion is VERY big for me, and I didn’t tell you that I had a tuna tartare and some really delicious home-baked break as appetizer.

On top of all that, I also had a very filling dessert. That’s probably the only time I’d say my stomach has not got enough space for dessert…

a chocolate brownie (9 layers of different texture), with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, poured on top by hot melting chocolate when served…officially marked the end of my dinner for the night. The restaurant also offer an extra portion for you to take home if you order this, but I was way too full and didn’t want to waste so I turned it down.

All in all, it is a very different dining experience, for a while I forgot I am in London but thought I’m in the State. so next time when you don’t have enough time to plan a real getaway to Vegas or New York, think New York Strip Bar & Steak, it’s only in Farringdon on Charterhouse Square, not too bad eh?
